Hello everyone,
Thanks so much to those of you who attended our GDC 2026 talk, "Co-ops are the Future"! We promised a packet of useful documents to get you started on your own co-op journey. Sorry that these are later than expected, I ended up getting sick at the end of GDC and had to go home early to quarantine for a week.
The core document you need to start your co-op are the Bylaws. These are somewhat similar in different jurisdictions because they act as your internal operating agreement. We intentionally structured the linked Sapmle Bylaws/Operating Agreement as a "kitchen sink," meaning that there's a lot in there that may or may not be relevant for your co-op. These are also a work-in-progress and are intentioned as a way for you to get started. In the future we want to integrate more feedback into these documents and also share some real-life examples from successful co-ops.

For those in the USA, tax and business entity type and tax compliance are something we are frequently asked about. Here are a couple of vital getting-started docs to help you get started in these areas -
Choosing an Entity Type
Tax and Compliance Cheat Sheet (U.S)
The next post in this newsletter is going to be a blog version of all the slides and text from our talk so those who don't have access to GDC can get the same information, and those of you who are starting your co-ops can review anything you want to look further into. I am finishing up editing that now, so look for that soon!
