The past week has been spent with folks painting the apartments behind us (lots of ladders squealing around as dragged, paint sprayers, air compressors) and folks redoing the roof of the apartments opposite us (wood cutting, nail guns, air compressors), but there's a possibility that they'll all be done next week and the apartment won't be an aural assault sandwich.
Patreon had me combine my accounts, hopefully it has not spammed you with information on who I'm following or whatever. I've also got "50% discount on tiers" or whatever kind of promotions from two people I follow who haven't posted in a year, which feels! Automated and weird. I poked through their ever-expanding mess of options and turned off what possibly could be doing that, though since I've the one (1) tier I think it's prevented most. If you're reading this on Comradery, wonderful! You can rest easy in knowing that you're supporting me via a system that gives me a bit more of that dollar and doesn't have weird, unexpected "features" that I could have sworn I'd turned off.
Things done in the past week:
- Some progress on my big longform project which I've been trying to do just, in pieces, rather than chronologically. Both as an experiment in practise and also as a way to make me keep on it (just do the parts you're feeling!). I've got my overall structure etc, but I've run up against a point where I need more substructure so I'm doing that right now. It's fun! I am overthinking it! But by overthinking it now I do not have to think later.
- Earlier today, folks who pay $1 got their three-week early preview of The Consoling Divide which starts Sunday after next, thrilling.
- Blog post this week was a bookpost, I am: wrung out from non-fiction, I am now reading some very very genre (fantasy), whew.
- I am doing the Neo-Twiny Jam 2026, baby's first game jam. It's nice and small: do an interactive fiction of 500 words or less (like, obvi not counting the code). After playing some previous years' submissions I decided I wanted to try a non-Twine platform/language for this and I think I'm going with the HyperCard-inspired Decker, which will be great not just for this jam but possibly a couple other things I've been wanting to do. HyperCard was my first time programming (? can it be called that?) in fifth grade and I loved it and it was a seed lodged in the crack of my brain that was watered by the HTML use of LiveJournal to flower into the untended garden it is today. Did you know not being very good at learning language also affects coding languages, anyway!! Decker looks dope and very flexible so I'm excited. You can do tables like spreadsheets in it!!!!
- I'm trying knitting again. The rule is I will need to make one thing. Then I can go back to never knitting. It's like re-trying vegetables you don't like. Maybe you wilL! (I won't)
Probably other bits and bobs this week but that's the top-level stuff. Thank you for your support!
